Steel is a widely used construction material for bridge building and furniture. It has versatile properties and uses. It is widely available in four types, including carbon steel. Alloy steel, stainless steel and tool steel. Steel is made of carbon and iron alloy, making it resistant and flexible. The alloy is always formed with chemical composition and metal elements. All types of steel are readily available from top steel distributors in India. All the different types of metals have different amounts of composition of metal and chemical elements.

Types of Steel

In this article, the three main types of steel, along with their benefits and drawbacks, are explained below.

Carbon Steel

One of the most widely used forms of steel is carbon steel because of its cold-forming properties. Its high melting point makes it highly ductile and resistant to heat. Carbon steel in India is the best choice because of its welding, forging, drilling, and other fabrication procedures.

There are three types of carbon steel

Hot rolled carbon steel has a rough texture and is best for structural applications.

Cold-rolled carbon steel has a slightly smoother texture than hot-rolled steel. It is rolled at a low temperature, which makes it suitable for construction where precision is most considerable.

Galvanized carbon steel: The most common layer is a zinc coating to prevent the steel from corrosion. It is the best choice for fences and other outdoor appliances.

Advantages

  • Carbon steel in India is readily available and less expensive.
  • It is flexible and can easily be moved or formed in different shapes.
  • It is best for welding and can be fabricated using various techniques.
  • It is challenging and resistant to deformation.
  • It can be used multiple times by melting, which makes it reusable without compromising its properties and quality.
  • It is highly resistant to corrosion.

Stainless Steel

Most durable and corrosion-resistant is stainless steel. Its non-rusting properties make it widely chosen for home and outdoor appliances. Most door handles are made of stainless steel. Stainless steel is easily sterilized and best for hygienic environments. It is the best option for surgical and dental instruments.

Alloy steel

It is a mixture of carbon steel with any other chemical composition. Most of it is produced by mixing manganese, silicon, nickel, titanium, copper, chromium, and aluminum. The added elements increase durability and resistance to temperature fluctuations. It has several mechanical and physical properties, including corrosion resistance.

Types of Alloy Steel

Low Alloy Steel: It is a steel with less composition of alloys and a high composition of carbon steel.

High-alloy steel is a type of steel in which the elements other than carbon are higher than those of low-alloy steel.

Advantages

  • It is more complex and challenging, and the manganese alloy increases the strength of the alloy steel.
  • Alloy steel can easily handle high friction and stress. It is readily available with any steel distributor in India.
  • With Molybdenum alloying elements, the weldability increases.
  • Alloy steel is the most harsh environmental situation.
  • The alloy steel with silicon has some magnetic properties as well.

Every type of steel offers different durability and strength. Corrosive nature may vary in different types. Decide the type of steel according to your preferences or contact any steel distributors to know more about types of steels.
